The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has officially inaugurated a new airport complex at Bamrauli Airport in Uttar Pradesh in northern India. The airport was developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in a record time of 11 months and at a cost of US$23m.
Bamrauli Airport belongs to the Indian Air Force, but the AAI maintains a civil enclave at the airport. Previously the enclave had an area of just 0.8 acres and operations were constrained through a small terminal building. There was no scope for expansion of the facility at its existing location. Therefore, a new modern terminal building was constructed. For this, the Government of Uttar Pradesh acquired and handed over 50 acres of land to AAI for development of the new complex.
The new passenger terminal building covers an area of 6,700m2 and can handle 300 passengers an hour. The terminal building is equipped with all the essential passenger-friendly amenities and provided with CUTE-enabled check-in-counters, baggage conveyors, a flight information display system (FIDS), CCTV, baggage scanners and parking for around 200 cars.
