Luxembourg Airport has unveiled the designs for the first phase of its new Airport City, which will open in 2021/2022 and will include office space, a car rental center, shops, restaurants, fitness facilities and a kindergarten across the 40,000m² (430,000ft²) site.
Construction of the Skypark Business Center South will begin in 2019 and will be located directly beside the airport terminal. The building will have a wooden structure and will include photovoltaics, rainwater collection, a high performing facade, green roofs and terraces to ensure it meets sustainability levels set by the airport.
It will have a double façade, designed to achieve significant reductions in noise and energy use, both for heating and cooling, and the building’s geometry will be optimized for daylight so that less artificial lighting is required.
René Steinhaus, CEO Lux-Airport, said, “I’m looking forward to seeing the first milestone of our Airport City becoming a reality. The Skypark Business Center South will be a reference for environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings. It helps us to align our economic and ecologic goals.”
