Sam Samaddar, director of the Airport Development Team at Kelowna International Airport in Canada, has unveiled a C$55.6m (US$44m) modernization project commencing at the airport in the coming months.
The works include a phased Baggage Hall expansion project; an expanded apron; two new Code C aircraft stands; the refurbishment of the departure lounge; and upgrades to the airport plaza area including the addition of a gas station and convenience store. Construction work will begin in the coming months and will be completed by 2018.
According to a report by The Daily Courier, Samaddar said, “It will all be paid for with the C$15 (US$12) airport improvement fee each departing passenger pays the airlines and the airlines pass onto us.
“Airports are in perpetual construction because they have to keep up with growth. The construction we are starting now will be at the heart of the facility and will cause some inconvenience and disruption.”
