Morpho Detection has been awarded a contract with London Heathrow Airport to supply 45 high-speed CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection systems (EDS) to screen all in-gauge baggage in Terminals 1, 2, 4 and 5.
Heathrow Airport selected CTX 9800 for its in-gauge baggage to enhance screening capabilities and ensure compliance with UK Department for Transport (DfT) regulations that mandate Standard 3-approved EDS to screen all hold baggage by September 2018. Under terms of the agreement, Morpho will provide logistical and service support and multiplexing software to enable central station and airport-wide networking capabilities.
After deployment, Heathrow will operate the largest fleet of Morpho CTX EDS outside the USA.
“Morpho is thrilled that one of the world’s busiest airports has recognized CTX 9800 as having the operational capabilities to meet its traffic and security demands,” said Karen Bomba, president & CEO, Morpho Detection.
“By reducing false alarms and time-intensive manual inspections of checked luggage, CTX 9800 is delivering on Morpho’s commitment to help airports prepare for approaching regulatory mandates and security challenges.”
Capable of screening more than 1,000 bags per hour (BPH), the high-speed CTX 9800 enhances operational efficiencies by screening bags faster and with fewer false alarms. It is approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as meeting Standard 3 requirements and certified by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)
