Siemens Postal, Parcel and Airport Logistics (SPPAL) has completed a simulation of the integration of new explosives detection systems (EDS) with the baggage handling system (BHS) in the North Terminal at London Gatwick Airport. The potential EDS upgrades will be in line with European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Level 3 standards.
Siemens’ simulation has resulted in a series of reports, presentations and workshops that will assist Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL), the airport operator, in making an informed decision on how best to increase security and efficiency at the airport.
Matt Payne, senior engineering manager, GAL, said, “System simulation is an essential part of the design process for Gatwick’s baggage handling facility. It’s a highly effective way for the teams to identify system characteristics and performance. Helping to provide essential data and information without disrupting day-to-day business is a critical requirement to ensure stable operations for our airport stakeholders and passengers.”
