Solutions developer Phase 5 Technology has partnered with baggage system manufacturer Daifuku Logan to install eight new self-service bag drop systems for use by Ryanair passengers departing from London Stansted Airport.
The Sonic bag drop systems allow passengers to check in and print off their own bag tags before dropping off their luggage at an automated kiosk. The system has a typical drop off speed of 25-35 seconds per passenger.
Sonic bag drop uses the latest cloud-based technologies, and integrates with the airline’s departure control system (DCS) using the latest IATA (International Air Transport Association) CUWS (Common Use Web Services) standards. The cloud-based architecture means that each Sonic bag drop is a plug-and-play device, allowing rapid installation and deployment for airports.
The system is currently deployed at 17 airports around UK, Ireland and mainland Europe, and processes in excess of 50,000 bags per week for CityJet, EasyJet, Flybe, Loganair and Ryanair.
