Incheon International Airport has launched the first ever self-service bag drop kiosk in South Korea after installing the Scan&Fly system from baggage handling solutions provider Type22.
Scan&Fly will be available to passengers who have checked in online or at a common use self-service (CUSS) kiosk, and who are flying with Asiana Airlines or Korean Air. Several more Type22 self-service bag drop units will be available for passengers from multiple airlines in October 2015.
Seong-kag Hong, vice president, operation division, Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC), said, “By introducing South Korea’s first self-service bag drop service, we have completed a fully automated departure process that includes self-service check-in, bag drop and auto immigration gates. We can further strengthen our position as a ‘smart airport’ by enhancing our operational efficiency [and] providing passengers with a fast and unique service.”
Passengers using Type22’s bag drop units simply scan their boarding pass and attach the bag tag to the baggage themselves. The bag will then be automatically measured, weighed, scanned and transported into the baggage handling system.
