Airport officials have unveiled the new passenger terminal at Wichita Dwight D Eisenhower National Airport in Kansas, USA, after nearly three years of construction. The new state-of-the-art terminal is spread across two levels and features 12 aircraft gates and boarding lounges.
The design of the building is meant to evoke the motion of flight, with a curvilinear roof form sweeping upwards from the center of the terminal. Below this is a 330ft long art sculpture composed of cable and laminated dichroic glass, which spans between columns under the skylights. The art is intended to evoke images and feelings of flight and space as well as ascent and descent. Light from the skylights above will provide a continual changing color pattern on the walls and floor below.
The new terminal includes: a spacious ticketing wing with self-service check-in kiosks, 786 in-seat charging outlets, larger public restrooms and free wi-fi throughout. It also has a large selection of new food and beverage outlets including Air Capital Bar, Chick-Fil-A, Dunkin’ Donuts, Grab & Fly and River City Brewing Co, and features retail outlets such as CNBC Smart Shop, CNBC News Express, Air Capital Market and the Wichita Luxury Collection.
