SSP America has been awarded a 10-year, US$298m contract by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA) to develop and operate 14 units occupying over 22,168ft2 at Tampa International Airport (TPA).
TPA is one of the region’s most significant economic engines, with a total economic output of more than US$7bn. More than 17.5 million passengers traveled through TPA in 2014, and that number is expected to nearly double over the next 20 years. The airport is currently undergoing nearly US$1bn in construction, including a main terminal expansion and renovation as well as a rental car center and automated people mover, scheduled for completion in 2017.
SSP America’s winning proposal featured a combination of renowned national brands alongside a variety of highly regarded Tampa-based standouts, as well as some of SSP’s own brands.
Local Tampa-based brands include: Goody Goody, a retro burger restaurant which uses ingredients sourced from Florida’s farms, ranches, dairies and bakeries; and Bavaro’s Pizza Napoletana and Pasteria, which is known throughout Tampa for serving authentic Italian food.
Michael Svagdis, president and CEO of SSP America, commented, “Tampa International is committed to remaining a major driver for economic growth in the region by offering an extraordinary passenger experience that attracts travelers from around the globe.
“We are honored to deliver a portfolio that is tailored to TPA’s vision, including brands and partnerships that are reflective of the Tampa Bay region. This is an important step for SSP America as we look to replicate our success in forging lasting partnerships throughout the ever-expanding North American market.”
SSP America’s line-up, which will open throughout 2016, includes two casual dining concepts and two quick casual marché concepts, each with six eateries.
