Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah has installed four new BorderXpress automated passport control (APC) kiosks in the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrivals area in the International Terminal.
The APC self-service kiosks, developed by Vancouver Airport Authority, allow eligible international passengers to enter their customs and passport information electronically, in lieu of declaration forms. The machines are free to use and do not require pre-registration or membership. Easy-to-follow instructions guide the traveler through the process, which includes scanning their passport, taking a photograph using the kiosk, answering customs declaration and biographic questions, and fingerprinting for Visa Waiver Program travelers. Passengers then receive a receipt confirming their information and can proceed to a CBP officer to complete their entry into the USA. The whole process takes about one minute.
Maureen Riley, executive director, Salt Lake City Department of Airports, the airport operator, said, “International travel to Salt Lake City is growing. We’re excited to join the other major American airports that offer this time-saving technology to travelers.”
Brian J Humphrey, CBP director of field operations in San Francisco, said, “US Customs and Border Protection remains committed to modernizing the international arrivals process by offering new and innovative technology systems. APC kiosks have been proven to reduce wait times for the ever-growing number of international visitors without compromising our important border protection mission.”
