Over one million passengers traveled through Edinburgh Airport in June 2015, making it the busiest June on record and the second busiest month ever.
A total of 1,098,859 people arrived and departed Edinburgh Airport in June, an increase of 10.6% when compared with the same month in 2014. This was helped by a 9.9% rise in domestic passengers thanks to increased services to London with Ryanair, Flybe and BA CityFlyer.
International passenger numbers grew by 11.1% for the same period, with a total of 622,882 passengers traveling through the airport. Increased services to Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Nice, Berlin and Madrid with easyJet helped boost the number of international passengers, as did the increased flights to Dublin, Rome and Barcelona with Ryanair. Long-haul routes to New York with American Airlines, a new daily service to Doha with Qatar Airways and the launch of Etihad Airways’ new daily service to Abu Dhabi also contributed to the strong growth.
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said, “We had an incredibly busy month in June with more passengers traveling through than ever before. As the summer properly gets underway we’re anticipating our passenger numbers will continue to grow as people head off on vacation.
“Although it’s great seeing so many passengers traveling through the airport at this time of year, we do realize the last few months have been challenging with issues in security. We’ve worked hard to resolve these, but it’s still important that our passengers help us by being prepared for the security process.”
