United Airlines and restaurateur OTG have opened the first wave of new dining concepts in Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, USA. The new dining concepts are part of a wider US$120m transformation project to improve the passenger experience and provide a wide range of high-tech dining options at the airport.
The Gate Lounge from OTG has been fitted with over 60 iPads each containing visual food and beverage menus, flight information and internet access courtesy of OTG’s Flo interface. The area also contains more than 100 USB power ports for passengers to charge their mobile devices.
In the Terminal C hallways, Rockwell Group has partnered with OTG to create Caps Beer Garden, with a menu designed by renowned chef Dale Talde from ‘Top Chef’, and Proof Whiskey Bar, with a menu by chef John DeLucie from NYC’s The Lion.
Caps Beer Garden serves a range of Asian-American bar food including buffalo chicken bao buns, cheddarwurst melt, crispy duck salad and hand made sushi rolls. At Proof Whiskey Bar, travelers can enjoy more than 100 types of whiskey and dine on dishes such as tuna tartare, turkey burgers with Rupert cheese and cranberry compote, a pork chop with cauliflower and apple mustard and a 12oz New York strip.
Rick Blatstein, CEO, OTG, said, “The opening of the first permanent dining concepts at Newark’s Terminal C represent a significant milestone in the passenger experience. They are part of
a US$120m transformation currently underway at the terminal that, when complete, will fundamentally change
how guests respond to and perceive the airport experience. By tying in local chefs, commissioning renowned designers and artists, and integrating
the latest technology, The United experience at Newark Liberty welcomes the next dimension of airport travel.”
Kate Gebo, vice president of corporate real estate for United, said, “United’s customers traveling through Newark Liberty enjoy the largest selection of flights and destinations and, with the continued upgrades to our gate areas and dining choices, the best airport experience as well. The remodeling of United’s facilities will better ensure customers are comfortable, connected, informed and in control throughout their airport experience.”
