Airport operator Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) has partnered with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to install new passenger security screening systems at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Mississippi, USA.
JMAA has been working in partnership with the TSA to secure and install the advanced imaging technology (AIT), which will allow most passengers to participate in the security screening process without the need for physical contact with a TSA employee.
The imaging technology uses harmless electromagnetic waves versus X-ray technology to detect potential threats, which are highlighted on a generic outline of a person appearing on a monitor attached to the unit.
AIT technology meets US health and safety standards and the energy emitted by millimeter wave technology is thousands of times less than what is permitted for a cell phone.
Carl D Newman, CEO for JMAA, said, “This new technology is an expression of JMAA’s efforts to continually focus on the safety of our passengers. The AIT equipment will not only enable the TSA at Jackson to more thoroughly screen passengers, but should also speed up the security processing time.”
