Grant from London Heathrow funds yoga lessons for primary school pupils

Students aged 8-12 years will learn to stretch their limits at Khalsa Primary School, Slough, following the launch of new Yoga and Mindfulness classes funded by London Heathrow Airport’s Community Fund.

The £2,500 (US$3,600) grant was offered as part of Heathrow’s HAPi grant scheme, which supports employees who regularly volunteer to help their community. Charanbir Anand, development project specialist at Heathrow, has been volunteering at Khalsa Primary School in his spare time for the last seven years. He applied for the grant to enable the school to provide Yoga and Mindfulness classes, to help pupils build confidence, agility, self-awareness and general wellbeing.

Headteacher Raminder Vig said, “Khalsa Primary School is proud and delighted to be in partnership with Heathrow Airport to support the children taking part in yoga sessions. Yoga lessons enhance the children’s concentration, help increase their self-esteem, improve their flexibility and strengthen their growing bodies.”

John Holland-Kaye, CEO, London Heathrow, said, “We are delighted to support this project, which will teach children the skills they need to build personal resilience and be able to respond to many of life’s challenges. Our HAPi grants program was launched in 2015 as a way of encouraging and supporting our Heathrow colleagues who volunteer in their local community, wherever they live. I’m always amazed by how much our colleagues do, and I’m delighted that our grant funding can help them do even more within our local community.”
