Express security lane opened for domestic travelers at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad has become the first airport in India to provide express security and check-in facilities for domestic passengers traveling without luggage.

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), the airport operator, partnered with India’s Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to install the new Express Security Check facility at the terminal entrance. Now domestic passengers can print their boarding pass from newly installed self-service terminals in the forecourt area before proceeding to the Express Security Check, bypassing the standard check-in area, and moving directly to the boarding area.

The airport handles more than 18,000 domestic departures on a daily basis, with close to 40% traveling without any checked-in baggage. Frequent flyers such as government officials and business travelers are set to immediately benefit from the Express Security Check facility.

O P Singh, director general, CISF, said, “We are committed to providing a very high level of security while also focusing on passenger comfort. This new feature is in sync with this commitment and we hope that every passenger flies happy and safe.

“Over the years, CISF has nurtured an organic relationship with GHIAL in aviation matters and both agencies benefit from each other’s innovations.”

S G K Kishore, CEO, GHIAL, said, “We are excited to be launching India’s first Express Security Check facility that lets domestic passengers without checked-in baggage proceed straight to security without going through the traditional check-in route. As part of our ‘Passenger is Prime’ program, the facility will result in a substantial reduction in the load at check-in counters and the regular security check areas during peak hours.

“This new concept of Express Security Check, if adopted, will benefit other airports in the country as well. CISF has played a vital role in supporting the implementation of this idea and providing the required manpower to make the innovative facility see the light of day.”
