Enabling works completed for Midfield Satellite Concourse at LAX

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the operator of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in California, has announced that the preparation work for the construction site of its new Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) has been completed on time and on budget.

The area has now been handed over to construction crews to begin laying the foundations for the proposed five-story, US$1.6bn facility, which will be linked to the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) via a 1,000ft passenger walkway.

Delivered at a cost of approximately US$8m, the preparation works involved the excavation of the site and the demolition a former Coast Guard hangar and a Trans World Airlines hangar, as well as the relocation of the airport’s rotating beacon, fiber communication infrastructure and Federal Aviation Administration equipment.

Deborah Flint, CEO of LAWA, said, “With the enabling work for the midfield concourse site now completed – on time and under budget – it is full speed ahead toward opening the concourse at the end of 2019. This new concourse will be state-of-the-art and has been designed to provide excellence in guest experience.”
