Louisville airport unveils US$9.5m terminal upgrades

Public space improvements costing more than US$9.5m have been unveiled at Louisville International Airport, Kentucky. As part of the Terminal Enhancement Project, renovations have taken place to the 185,000ft² main terminal, with new décor and features.

The airport serves more than 3.4 million people a year. Passing through Louisville, they will now experience a new terrazzo floor and carpet; four new core escalators connecting baggage claim with ticketing; improvements to the connector area between the security checkpoint and concourses; a gallery of community images and other graphics; a meditation room; new LED lighting systems; and new wall treatments.

But the improvements are far from over. Food-and-beverage operator Host International Inc and gift-and-news retailer Paradies-Lagardère have together invested more than US$9.3m in new or remodeled outlets, to be completed in early 2017.

Jim Welch, chair of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority board of directors, said, “What you see here is the
culmination of a focused, three-year effort involving broad community input. Our goal was to enable the traveling public to
experience the essence of what makes our community unique and special. We are indeed pleased with the result.”

Karen Williams, president and CEO of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, added, “For many visitors coming to Louisville, the airport is the first impression they get of the city. The new terminal enhancements, all consciously made to spotlight what is authentically Louisville and Kentucky, tells our guests that they have arrived in a community that takes pride in its local businesses, brands and culture.”
