A souvenir-hunting thief has stolen the glasses from the statue of John Lennon at the Liverpool airport named after him.

The former Speke Airport was renamed Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 2001 and the life-size statue has been in place on a plinth overlooking the check-in desks on the level two walkway since March 2002.
Liverpool artist Tom Murphy, creator of the statue, says, “It is not the first time it has happened to be honest, but it is a real shame. These glasses were attached to the statue and the thieves have damaged it when they were taken off. We’ve put a temporary pair on for now and are getting a new pair recast soon.”
