Testing of new body scanning machines is now underway in the United States. If proved successful in daily use they could potentially replace the metal detectors that passengers walk through. The machines utilise x-rays and millimetre waves to detect foreign objects, creating an image based on energy that is reflected from the body. But civil rights groups aren’t entirely happy, and there’s some concern the devices aren’t in any way fool proof.
